Welcome to “The Electronics Hobby Blog Dot Com”. Over the coming weeks, months, and years I would like this site to become a great source of information and enjoyment for my fellow electronics hobbyists, you fine folks, as well as for me. But what does that mean? Well, it doesn’t mean it will be a great design resource, there are other sites, many hosted by professional organizations and manufacturers, that execute that mission far better than I ever could. And it doesn’t mean that you’ll be able to find an obscure datasheet or component specification. There are much better sites for that as well.
What it does mean, is that it will become an excellent learning resource for beginning hobbyists with tutorials (including video) and explanations specifically designed to educate those of you that are new, or relatively new to the hobby (Beginners Corner).
(Let’s Build…) features step by step guides that walk you through the design, prototyping, testing, and building of interesting projects intended to both further your electronics knowledge and help you build your own home lab. These may include an adjustable benchtop power supply, microcontroller-based frequency counter, resistor substitution box, multi-frequency square wave generator, and other both test and non-test focused projects.
(Component Focus) picks a particular component, a Texas Instruments lithium battery boost converter for example, and covers that product in-depth including specifications, sample circuits, design notes, pitfalls, etc. Everthing you’ll need to know to start using it in your own projects.
(Embedded Topics), as the name implies, focuses on embedded hardware and software including development boards/platforms, TFT and other display screens (I’ve become particularly fond of the Nextion displays), adding additional EEPROM, remote sensing, high resolution analog to digital and digital to analog solutions, etc.
In addition, I’ll review and recommend, or not recommend, components, kits, products, test equipment, books, and other items of interest to the electronic hobbyist (Yea or Nay).
The site will evolve, as readership grows, but I will keep it true to its original focus, on you, the electronics hobbyist.
The first topic, in the Beginners Corner category, coming very soon, covers the basics of resistors and simple circuit analysis. We look at resistors, what they are, what they do, how to analyze basic resistor circuits – Ohm’s and Kirchhoff’s laws – and some practical applications including time at the bench. Look for it in the next few days.
